Warmup: Today, you will read pages 22-32 of "Food Chains and You" by Bobbie Kalman. When you are done reading, go onto the blog and look for a post titled "Food Chains and me". Respond to the question inside the blog. You should be done with this warmup in 20 minutes or so. No one should be working on it past 30 minutes.
Activity: You will receive a food chains packet today. This packet will be started in class, but you are expected to finish it for homework. Don't worry, its not due tomorrow. You will have until next Wednesday (12/18/2019) to complete the work in this packet. With such a long time given for you to complete, the answers need to be detailed and correct. This will be graded very carefully. When you have finished reading this, walk up to the blue bin (where we keep the loose leaf) and take a packet. Begin work immediately. You may work independently or with a partner (the better of a decision you make on this will dictate how much homework you have).
Thursday, December 12th 2019
Do now: Take a paper out of the do now bin in the front. Fill it out. Use epic books IF YOU NEED IT. You should know the answers to these questions without it by now. When it is completely filled out, bring to Mr. Williams desk and then begin your activity.
Activity: Watch this video. When you are done, log into the blog and answer the question under the title “Food Chain Summary”. After you post, continue working on the packet we have been working on. Remember, this goes home as homework today. It's a 40 point assignment. Can you afford to not hand it in?

KAHOOT FRIDAY :)
Week of 12/16 - 12/20
Monday, December 16th, 2019.
Do Now: Brainpop video with class.
Activity: Today, we will begin a small project. Our objective is to investigate a certain type of food chain (or ecosystem) and see how the food chain/food web works in that ecosystem. Follow the directions. Boys and girls, if you finish this entire project today, you did not include enough detail or spend enough time reading the book you chose.
1) Go to EPIC books. Look at the assigned books. There, you will see a choice of 9 different books that you can read, all of which teach us about food chains in different ecosystems.
2) Select ONE of the books and read it. Pick one that interests you. If you are not sure of what a word means in the title, click here to use a dictionary. This might help you choose something that definitely interests you.
3) Go into Kidblog and find the topic that says “Ecosystems and Food Chains”. Answer the questions that are inside the blog. Make sure you answer all the questions as it will allow you to share facts, as well as things that interest you.
4) When you are done, read other peoples posts and learn about the food chains in different ecosystems. Comment on their posts with questions, or comments that are positive. You know what the consequence is should your comments not be positive.
We will continue this work on Tuesday.

Activity: Today is a bit of a break for you. You've worked very hard on this food chain unit over the last three weeks, and tomorrow is your quiz. So, let's kick back and relax a bit. Your task today is simple. Using the information that you researched over the last two days from the book you chose, today you will draw a food chain from your specific ecosystem. Remember, all food chains start with the same thing (HINT). Not all ecosystems have the same plant life, or animal life that live in them. Do the best you can to draw the specific animals that are in your ecosystem. If you don't know what an animal looks like, use this link only to search for a picture of it. Using google without permission will result in your computer being shut down. Make sure you label what animals you are drawing (just in case your drawings are not as good as Mr. Williams drawings). When you are done, bring it over to the closet and hang it up so that the others can see. If you don't finish in class, and want to finish it at home, you can take it home!

Practice makes perfect?
Today, you will take your New York State Practice test. Read this before you do.
I am not concerned with the score you receive on this. Instead, I am concerned with the effort that you put into it. If you do not know the answer to a question, go ahead and make your best guess. Eliminate answers that can not be. You will take this exam individually. It may be easier to split your screen to work on this, but you could also just toggle back and forth.
I will discuss the individual results of this exam with your parents when I see them. It is only to help you pass this test, which I KNOW YOU CAN DO. Do the best you can, but do not freak out if you don't know something. We can work together to make sure you understand concepts.

First off, Thank you to those of you who put in effort yesterday. I know that we do not like taking tests, however, there is no better way to accurately pin point where we stand. I am very proud of everyone who took the time, and took this seriously. A lot of you have come a very long way this year, and its exciting to watch you grow into great learners!
Today, we begin our study of simple machines.
Activity: To begin, I would like to bring you back to one of my favorites. Click here to watch a video on simple machines.
The video is an introduction to simple machines.
I am handing out a worksheet today to go with this video. Make sure you fill it out completely. Use the pause function on the video, as well as the rewind, if you miss something. I promise you that all of the answers are in there somewhere. When the worksheet is done, flip it over and follow the directions. After you've done what it asks you to do on the back, click on your class to get to the blog!

After you are done with that, bring your card (WITH YOUR NAME ON IT) to Mr. Williams desk and hand it to him. Immediately after this, and at a level zero, read these pages (there are three, make sure to scroll down). Click on your class to answer the questions. We went over how to split the screen, so you can refer back to the reading should you need help answering the questions. If you finish this, you may go back onto the blog and respond or comment on other peoples entries.

Do now: Circle
Centers:
1) Experiment center on Force and Motion with Mr. Williams.
- There will be a worksheet due at the end of this center (45 pts)
- See teacher for directions.
2) BrainPOP with Ms. Bell.
- see teacher for directions. Which group, from which class, can score the most points?
3) Independent Research.
- We want to give you the opportunity to research something of your choosing. When we research something we want to, we are more interested than if we are given a topic to pick. There is only one restriction to the topic. They must be either science or social studies based.
- Take a look at the first four pages of your packet. They are ideas of how we come up with a research topic. Research topics should answer a question. First thing you must decide is a topic. Then you should select a specific area, and a question that you can answer. In the first four pages, there are EXAMPLES. You might not want to complete any of those, and that is fine. But you will need to come up with something specific that you want to research.
- When considering topics to research, you should look at the resources available. Epic can be a great resource for this, as it has tons of book. Another great resource is safe-search. Click here to get to it. DO NOT BE CAUGHT on google, there will be consequences if you are.
- This center is only the beginning of the process. YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO FINISH TODAY. In fact, if you do finish today, You rushed. Spend some time finding a topic that really interests you.
- Once you've found a topic and it is approved by a teacher, proceed to the third page in your packet. It is titled independent research. You can begin filling out this page.
- If you use a book, or a website. you need to log it into the chart (last page of your packet). I need to know exactly where all your information came from.
- Each student will be responsible for turning in a two part project. The first part is a type written (or neatly handwritten) report. This will be a page long typed, or a page and a half written. The second part of the project will be your choice. You could make a poster, do a slide show presentation, act out a skit or play, build a model, create a song, or anything else that is creative (and approved)

Activity: Find a partner, and read pages 20-31 of the book "Exploring the New York Colony" by Patrick Catel. When you are done, log onto kidblog and find the blog titled "The Birth of New York". Answer the questions inside the blog. Please note that I will not publish this blog right away. You can use the questions I gave you to guide you, but your notes will help you with a project later in the week. We will go over the specifics of the project on Tuesday, during your do now time.
Here are a copy of the readings in case you need to go back and research anything else.
Pages 20-21, Pages 22-23, Pages 24-25, Pages 26-27, Pages 28-29, Pages 30-31.

Activity: Today, you will work independently. Finish up any readings that you did not from yesterday, and then complete the blog post titled "The Birth of New York". When this is done, select two of the readings below. Pick ones that you think you might be interested in. After that, you are going to go to the blog post titled "Colonial Perspectives". Answer the questions on this blog. Please note, you will not have any more time to work on these two blogs after today. Both of these are going to give you valuable information for the project.
Colonial Perspective - A Slave's Life
Colonial Perspective - An Indentured Servant
Colonial Perspective - Women
Colonial Perspective - Artisan
Colonial Perspective - Large Land Owner
Colonial Perspective - Native American
Colonial Perspective - Farmer
Wednesday, February 5th 2019.
Do now: Take a few minutes and make sure your blog posts from the last two days are done, and contain enough information.
Activity: You are going to receive the book "If you lived in Colonial Times" by Ann McGovern. When you get it, go to the table of contents. Browse through the table of contents and find different sections that interest you. Use the worksheet that you are given to write down some facts from the questions that you chose. Remember, you will be using these facts to create a fictional letter home to your family in Europe. Once your worksheet is filled out completely, you can begin writing a rough draft or an outline for your project. We discussed the details, and the worksheet that you got is attached here (in case you've forgotten what we are doing).

Yesterday, I fooled you telling you that there was going to be a test. That was fun. Today, however, you need to do some work so that I have a grade to put in for immigration. I told you that I am not a big fan of using tests in Social Studies, so I am going to present you with a few options. Select one and complete it. You will have all day today, and the half of a class tomorrow to complete this. (So, if you think you are done halfway through Wednesday's class, you probably are not)
Option #1: How did we get from (picture of a native American village) here to (picture of New York City) here?
Option #2: Write an essay about the following topic; How has the migration of people to America changed throughout the course of history? This is an important question. It has changed significantly.
Option #3: Write a fictional story about someone who used a time machine to visit three different periods in time. You must talk about what they saw during Native American times, during colonial/exploration times, and now. Explain how things were different. You can use the story to help you do this.

Good morning friends. I know this might be a little weird for both of us, but I am sure we will get through this. The government canceled school so that we can all stay home, and stay away from the Corona virus. Do you part. Keep washing those hands. Stay home, talk to your friends on your phones and computers instead of being with them. The sooner we all do this, the sooner we get to go back to school and live normally again. So, each day, you will find work posted here. I will post it the night before. I am also looking up some ways that we can all meet virtually, for anyone who wants to. Submit your work on the blogs, or on the google docs. I am also going to leave sign up instructions for some new systems that we can use to help us communicate. Once again, we will get through this. Since we are so used to doing things online, this shouldn't be so different for us! If you have any questions, you can email me at [email protected]. I will only answer appropriate emails. I created a blog post that we can use to keep in touch, should you want to.
For today, read the following articles. (Yes, I know there are five of them, they are very short and will take you no time at all).
Article 1
Article 2
Article 3
Article 4
Article 5
After you read the articles, go to the blog, look for the blog titled Monday, 3/16/2020 and answer the questions.

Tuesday, 3/17/2020:
Good morning to you all! Day 2 of no school. I hope that you are all taking this time to be productive. Remember, just because we are not in school, we still need to be learning and achieving. I know that, with you all, this will be easy. I am really impressed with what I've seen this year so far. You all work very hard and have come a long way. I look forward to watching you grow even more. I noticed that we only had about half of our classes logged onto the website yesterday. I know some of you are in touch with others in the class. Reach out and tell them that we are still working through the website! All I am asking you to do is reach out. They will choose whether to do the work or not. It would be great to connect with everyone on here. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU who logged on the first time, and submitted such detailed work!
Yesterday, we read about adaptations. Pretty overwhelmingly, you were able to figure out that an adaptation is something that an animal has to do to survive. Survival, after all, is the goal of every living thing. Without survival, we don't have anything! Some of us here in the Northeast adapt to cold weather by wearing jackets. Animals let their fur grow and gain weight. Sometimes, animals have to hide from predators (that word looks familiar) and they are able to camouflage into their surroundings. We are going to spend the rest of the week talking about these adaptations, and what specific animals do to adapt to their environments. Today, you are going to read a bit about how some different animals adapt to their surroundings. Here are your directions for today.
1) Read the following articles.
“What a long neck you have! Study closes in on genes behind giraffe height”.
“Southern California a good spot for Sharks, but Northern California not”.
"Nothing can stop her"
2) After you read the articles, go to the blog, look for the blog titled Tuesday, 3/17/2020 and answer the questions.

Good morning 4th graders. We are almost done with our first week of learning at home. There are some people who are finishing all their work. You deserve a big congratulations. Remember, this is not homework. It is taking the place of our class, which is about an hour and a half long. Please make every effort to finish your work in a detailed and timely manner. Here is your agenda for today.
1) If you did not finish any of yesterdays work, scroll down, find Wednesday 3/18/2020 and finish that work.
2) Today, we will spend time reading about a few different type of animals, and the adaptations their bodies have made or they have made. Your job is to select 2 OF THE FOLLOWING 3 and read about them. You will then go to kidblog, and answer the questions . The questions are the same as the questions listed with the articles.
Giraffes

Hi all. With the news of the state test being "suspended", it changes things for us a little bit. Instead of reviewing, I am working on putting together some new things for us to look at and study. Our next unit of study is going to be about the physical Earth, meaning, what the Earth actually is. Today, we will do some groundwork for that. You will have three separate assigmments to complete today. Each article I assign you comes with one blog question, and then there is one practice page for graphing (some of you are becoming pro's). There is only one blog for both articles.
Yesterday, I began officially grading for the fourth quarter. Each day, I will be putting a grade in the gradebook for the work assigned. Today, you work will be worth a total of 23 points.
5 for the question about "Watery Wonders of the World"
5 for the question about "Earths plant and animal species need each other to survive, report says"
13 for the graphing practice submitted via google doc - Snacks at the ballgame and Types of shoes.

Wednesday, 3/25/2020.
So, yesterday, you read a little bit about the oceans, and the land part of the Earth. We read about that because that (kind of) leads us into today. Ever try and dig a hole in the ground. Pretty tough to get far down. But, if you had the ability and the strength to dig all the way through, you would find some pretty interesting things. We only live on the surface (or on another part of the Earth that you will read about today) of the planet Earth. Below us, there are a lot of things going on. Begin todays readings with all of this in mind.
A note - I am a little confused as to why I am having so much trouble getting people to submit google forms. Only 28 of you completed the graphing practice exercise yesterday. This tells me two things. Either people are not completing the assignments because they are not reading all of the directions, and scrolling past the first assignment, or people are just not doing it. Neither of these are an acceptable answer. You all know how to fill in a google form, I've watched you do it. I haven't gotten any emails alerting me to any problems. I am going to be asked to make a fourth quarter grade for you, and without these google forms, that grade will be substantially lower than it should be. To those of you who are consistently completing them, I am very happy to see this. Lets all get on board. I can't have 60 students submitting blog work, and only half of that submitting google forms.
Each day, I will be putting a grade in the gradebook for the work assigned. Today, you work will be worth a total of 17 points.
7 for the question about "The layers of the Earth"
10 for the questions about "A gigantic jigsaw puzzle"
We are going LIVE today at 1:00 PM (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday). At 1:00, you can come back to this site right here and click this link to get to the meeting. If you come before, you will wait in the waiting room. https://zoom.us/j/5086150957

We introduced ourselves to the layers of the Earth on Wednesday. I love the analogy of an apple when thinking about the Earth's core. It makes it so easy to understand. Today, we are going to focus our study on the crust, or the outer layer of the Earth. Yesterday, we spent a little time reading about the continents, and how they are located on plates. Today, we are going to study those plates and their movements (YES THEY MOVE, and they are even moving now).
Each day, I will be putting a grade in the gradebook for the work assigned. Today, you work will be worth a total of 10 points.
10 for the question about "Continental Drift Theory" and "Plates"
As stated during yesterdays zoom, it would be helpful if you can get this work done before we go live. We are going LIVE today at 1:00 PM ( Thursday and Friday). At 1:00, you can come back to this site right here and click this link to get to the meeting. If you come before, you will wait in the waiting room. https://zoom.us/j/5086150957. Chats have been disabled, and so has annotations. We have to learn how to act appropriately during the zooms, or we can not use these functions. We are using zoom to learn, not to mess around.
1) Read the highlighted section of this document to learn a little about plates. Click here to get it. After that, read this document on the Continental Drift Theory. Click here to get it. Go to kidblog, and answer the question listed. (PS - You can look at the videos before you answer the questions)

Happy Thursday to you! Another week almost done. This distance learning thing is becoming a breeze. A lot of you are getting very good at it. We did a lot of reading this week, so today, you are getting a well deserved break from it. Today, you will have a video choice day. Grab a pen, and a piece of paper, or open up a document on your computer (this might get hard because you will have to toggle back and forth to the video.)
Step 1: Write down the following questions
1) List five things that you learned from this video.
2) Share one thing that this video made you want to research more about
3) Share one of the most interesting facts you learned from this video.
** Remember, this is to be done in your own words**
Step two: Select one of the following three videos and watch it to answer your questions.
1) Volcanoes
2) Earthquakes
3) Earth's Crust
Step three: Record your answers on the blog for others to read!
1 point for each fact that you learned = 5
1 point for sharing about what you would like to further research = 1
1 point for your interesting fact = 1
2 points for your effort = 2
1 point for things being in your own words = 1
10 points total for today! Pretty easy.
BONUS ALERT:
Step Four: You make the kahoot.
1) Using information that we learned in the last week (on volcanoes, earthquakes, plate tectonics or the layers of the earth) come up with ONE multiple choice question that could be used for a kahoot (shouldnt be too easy, nor should it be too hard). Place the question, and four answer choices into the 4/2/2020 BONUS BLOG. Anybody's question that I select will receive one extra point on today's (Thursday's) classwork, and one extra point on their lowest grade from the last week! ONE SUBMISSION PER STUDENT - I will only look at your first submission.

Good morning fourth graders! It was so good to see your faces again yesterday morning. I am so glad that most of you were able to get onto zoom and join us for the conversations. I heard that attendance was pretty good for all classes in all subjects, so very nice job with that. Today is Wednesday already! These weeks go so quickly. As promised, one reading and one question again for today. Today's question is a little bit more complex. You will still have no problem answering it. I will see you all during our ZOOM sessions for today! I am so proud of the work you are turning in and that so many of you followed directions and got your classwork done. Today's zoom will also end a little early so that you can continue working on your classwork! Enjoy every minute of your day.

Good Morning 4th Graders! Today, we begin another round of Zoom talks. Science and Social Studies zoom talks will last between 40 minutes and one hour. Today, during zoom, we will be talking about the readings that you did yesterday about Earthquakes and Tsunami's. After (or before) we have our zoom today, your assignment is to read this article, then log into the blog and answer the question I posed about it. I've reduced the number of questions you have to answer daily because of the amount of time we will spend on zoom, so make sure your answer to this question is detailed and correct.

Each day, I will be putting a grade in the gradebook for the work assigned. Today, you work will be worth a total of 5 points.
5 points for the question about "Volcanoes, part 1"
Monday, 3/30/2020
Good MORNING, and Happy Monday to you all! Judging by the participation on "Silly Selfie Saturday" on edmodo Saturday, I am making the inference that most of you had a relaxing weekend NOT thinking about anything school related. That's perfectly fine. That is why weekends exist. But today is Monday and its time to get back to work. If you parents have showed you the zoom schedule for the week - head on over to edmodo and check it out. I will see each class three times this week, and not in a big group anymore. It will be fun to reconnect with each class again!
Each day, I will be putting a grade in the gradebook for the work assigned. Today, you work will be worth a total of 10 points.
10 points for the question about "Tsumanis, and Earthquakes"
For today, you have two short articles to read and ten questions to answer. This is the stuff we are going to discuss tomorrow during our zoom. We will begin with a DO NOW, and then work through some of this material together. Science zooms will probably last for about 45 minutes.
Here are the articles and questions:

Good morning fourth graders, and happy Friday! Today is something that you will not see often, so, here it goes.
If you've completed all of your work for this week, then you have a day off to recognize how hard you've worked. I saw a lot of submissions to the blog this week, and am happy that so many of you have been following the directions so carefully.
If you have not completed all of your work for this week, you may use today as a catch up day. I would suggest getting anything done that you did not complete today, as you will not see many of these.
Remember, tune into the website on Monday morning (4/13/2020) to get next week's assignments. I think that you will be pleasantly surprised with what they are, and I hope that you enjoy them!
Have a great weekend.
Thursday, 4/9/2020
Happy Thursday to you! Another week almost done. As we talked about today, this is the end of our unit of science on the Planet Earth and its layers. We did a lot of reading this week, so today, you are getting a well deserved break from it. Grab a pen, and a piece of paper, or open up a document on your computer (this might get hard because you will have to toggle back and forth to the video.)
Write down the following questions
1) List five things that you learned from this video.
2) Share one thing that this video made you want to research more about
3) Share one of the most interesting facts you learned from this video.
** Remember, this is to be done in your own words**
Click here to watch the video!
Record your answers on the blog for others to read!

1 point for each fact that you learned = 5
1 point for sharing about what you would like to further research = 1
1 point for your interesting fact = 1
2 points for your effort = 2
1 point for things being in your own words = 1
10 points total for today! Pretty easy.

Good morning fourth graders. More than half of your week is over, and today is your last zoom for this week. As promised, no new readings today so I am putting up a link only for yesterdays reading. I posted three more questions onto kidblog for the day. Head on over, answer those up and you are done for today!

Tuesday, 4/7/2020.
Good morning 4th graders. Today is Tuesday, and hopefully I will see you for our zoom (in which we will discuss the readings that you did yesterday). Today, you will complete another reading that we will talk about during Wednesday's zoom. This reading has three pages, and because its a bit longer, it is only accompanied by one question today. Tomorrow, Wednesday, you will use this same reading to answer a few other questions. So, it may take you a little longer to read today, but you wont have to read as much on Wednesday!

Boys and girls, you have used this website more than enough times to know that there are links for everything everywhere. If I, for some reason, forget to place a link to the blog, you know that you can find that link on another days assignment, in the LINKS section above, or anywhere in the past week's assignment. Not having a link to the blog is not an acceptable excuse to not have your work done. It's even permanently placed at the bottom of this page. I heard a lot of excuses today from all three classes about the blog link not being up for one of the assignments. We are better than this!
Monday, 4/6/2020.
Good morning fourth grade students! We hope that you had a wonderful weekend, and that you are coming out of this weekend rested and ready to roll! To think, we've been at this almost a month. We are getting pretty good at this distance learning thing. A big shoutout to everyone who is trying and who is making the best of their time learning. We pick up this week on a topic that is new, but related to what we've learned in the last two weeks. We are going to talk about two more Earth processes, both that take part in shaping the Earth. They are called weathering and erosion. For today, you will read three short articles and answer ONE question about each. Your answers need to be in your own word. Make sure you do this.
For today, each question will be worth four points. If you do not answer the question in your own words, you can only receive one point credit.
4 points x 3 questions = 12 points for todays work!

4/13-4/17
For the week of 4/13-4/17, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL OF THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING! I do not normally like putting up weekly work, but since there are no zoom meetings this week, I put everything up in case you want to jump ahead.
Directions: Fourth grade was supposed to bring you the opportunity to show off a lot of academic talent. Before this pandemic, you were scheduled to take three state exams. This is the more state exams than the fifth graders took last year! As your teachers, it’s our job to prepare you for these tests. Up until we went out for this recess, that was our plan. It’s hard to imagine what learning at home is like, I wonder what it will feel like to have a “vacation” where you can’t leave the house. Sounds kind of boring, doesn’t it? I used to love school vacation, because it meant for time to do things. So, lets do things. This week, I’ve prepared for you a different virtual field trip each day. Each day, you will “journal” about your virtual trip, and share your favorite parts and something you learned with your classmates. This week is less about your grades, and more about your exploration and participation. I hope that you are able to have fun!
Monday, 4/13/2020, Tuesday 4/14/2020 and Wednesday 4/15/2020
Directions: Explore the links, then follow the directions on the bottom to fill out a journal of your two trips. You have three days to complete two trips, not bad! **Remember, if you choose option A, you should go to all of the links under it**
Select 2 of the following 5 field trips that you could go on! (Option A, B, C, D and E)
After you pick your trips, and do all the links for the trips you choose, you will journal about these trips. Go down below the options and find the directions, and the questions.
Option A: Would you like to visit with some underwater friends?
1) Click here to watch this short film for an introduction to the oceans. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfWyzrkFkg8)
2) Click here to see the live camera’s at the Monterey Bay Aquarium located in Monterey California. Here you will find ten different live camera’s streaming the inside of the aquarium. Be patient with the cameras, and follow the posted times that they operate. You should have time to check out all of them! (https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/animals/live-cams)
3) Then, take a trip, all the way across the United States, to Baltimore Maryland and visit the National Aquarium by clicking here. Spend some time moving around the different exhibits and see what you can find!
Option B: Would you like to visit with some land dwelling friends?
1) Click here to watch this short video on habitats. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrSWYE37MJs)
2) Click here to take a virtual trip down to a zoo in Houston, Texas. This city is located in one of the southern most states in the United States. Check in on some of their webcams (check hours, 7am-7pm). (https://www.houstonzoo.org/explore/webcams/)
3) After that, click here to book your trip to Southern California, and check out the San Diego zoo and some of its live cameras! (https://kids.sandiegozoo.org/videos)
Option C: Ellis Island
1) Click here to take an interactive tour of Ellis Island, located right here in New York City.

2) Click here to browse the museum on your own! https://naturalhistory2.si.edu/vt3/NMNH/
3) Click here to watch one more! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Orq_YLN5FWE
Option E: The Museum of Natural History in New York!
Today, we are going to explore one of the biggest museums in NYC. A museum is a “a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited.” Let’s get started close to home – Click here to take a tour of the American Museum of Natural History.

Directions: Open up kidblog and journal about each of the “trips” you choose to go on.
Make two separate posts, one for each “field trip”.
The blog title is “M-W Trips Journal” I will look for two separate posts from you. Should you be bored, and want to write about one extra trip, I will allow you to do that, and count that as extra credit points for the fourth quarter.

Thursday and Friday April 16th and 17th.
Directions: Today, you will all be taking a trip into the heart of New York. That’s right, it’s a city day! Without leaving your couch or chair or whatever you are sitting in. After words, you will journal about it.
This tour highlights many of the different things that New York is famous for.
- Grand Central Station
- 9/11 Memorial
- Times Square
- Statue of Liberty
- Ellis Island
- South Street Seaport

Good Morning Students. A few things:
1) Thank you to all of those who made your work a priority. It is nice to see that you are getting your work done.
2) I noticed a spike in "copying and pasting" activity yesterday. If your answer was copied and pasted, you received no more than a total of 4/8 points. I know when you are copying and pasting. All I have to do is search the work, and it comes right up. Make sure the work is in your own words. There was enough evidence in yesterdays article to answer all four of those questions.

Good Morning, and Happy Monday to you all. What a mixed weekend it was. There was a ton of fresh and beautiful air on Saturday, and then, a rainy dreary day today. I read that there is supposed to be a lot of rain this week. I say, let it rain now, while we are stuck inside. Save the sun for when we are not!
Today, we are going to head back into Social Studies for a while. Like I reminded you ten thousand times before, we started all the way back in the beginning when people walked onto North American soil. We traveled through Native American times, Colonial Times, and ended up talking about immigration and how people got here. Today, we are going to begin talking about what happened in the state of New York (and the United States) from the 20th century on. (1901-present)
Today, you are going to spend some time researching the constitution of the United States of America. We have to rewind a little here so that you can understand the rest of the unit. Today is the day that we do that!
Use this website to look up what the constitution of the United States is. On kidblog - Write two sentences describing what the constitution is.
Why do you think the constitution is so important?
Using the same website, find where it talks about amendments. What is an amendment to the Constitution?
Why are amendments so important to the constitution?
Feel free to explore the website that I linked here. You are not required to read the whole thing.

Good Morning and Happy Monday!
I was very happy with the way that the presentations worked during our class the week before last. We talked about three topics, last week, that I think we can put together in a presentation. We are going to put those presentations together during class this week. Great chance for you to participate and to select a topic that interests you further.
Step 1: Choose one of the following three topics.
1) World War II
2) The Invention of the Television
3) Equal Rights for all (Civil Rights and Women's Rights)
Step 2: Begin to research your topic.
1) If you selected World War II, begin your research by reading through this website. The U.S. Homefront in World War II
2) If you selected The Invention of the Television, begin your research by reading through this website. How does a TV work?
3) If you selected Equal rights for all, begin your research by reading through this website. African American Civil Rights Movement.
Step 3: Head over to kidblog, and answer the questions for your topic only.
The highest score you can receive is a 5/12 IF you cut and paste from the website. This should be in your own words. Summarize it.

Today, we will begin looking at examples of advocacy (ad-vo-KAH-see). According to Meriam-Webster, an advocate is "a person who argues for or supports an idea or plan peace." Last week, we spent time learning about what the different governments do. We learned what local governments do, we learned what state governments do, and finally, we learned about what the federal government is responsible for. This week, we are going to look at what happens when people think that the government is not doing enough. We are going to look at various things that others do. My hope is to inspire you to advocate for the things that you think are fair.
For today, please read the following article, and then respond to the prompt on kidblog.
